Bundesliga club Hoffenheim has completed the signing of Nigerian forward Gift Orban from French side Lyon for a reported fee of €9 million ($9.2 million), the French club confirmed on Thursday.
The 22-year-old had struggled to find his place at Lyon since his move from Belgian side Gent last year. Orban made 21 appearances for Lyon, scoring five goals, but had not featured in a league match since September.
“We wish Gift Orban all the best in his new chapter,” Lyon stated.
Hoffenheim, on the other hand, is excited about Orban’s addition, highlighting his pace and ability to offer more width to their attacking options.
“Gift Orban is exactly the type of fast striker we were looking for,” said Hoffenheim’s sporting director Andreas Schicker. “We are confident his skills will bring more variety to our offensive play.”
