Oba Femi has quickly made a name for himself in WWE’s “NXT,” captivating fans with his powerful presence and athleticism.
With Nigerian roots, Femi has brought a fresh dynamic to the developmental brand, becoming a rising star in the wrestling world.
However, during a recent appearance on The Ringer Wrestling Show, Femi shared that his family initially wanted him to focus on his academic pursuits when he first started his journey.
“I personally have no regrets about finishing college,” Femi explained. “Although my family was the one pushing for it, I don’t regret going back because having a degree is something you can always fall back on — it’s something that no one can take away from you. I believe things happen for a reason. There’s a reason I officially joined WWE in 2022 instead of 2021. Who knows if I had joined earlier, it would have been my year.”
Over time, his parents have become more familiar with the intricacies of professional wrestling as they’ve seen his progress. Femi shared that they now have a better understanding of the industry.
“My parents definitely understand what this is now,” he said. “I’ve explained to them how it works and how you climb the ladder. So, when they see my accolades, they fully understand what’s happening. But they don’t know everything. You really have to experience it to truly grasp what wrestling is all about.”
Femi’s career continues to gain momentum, highlighted by his recent victory in the NXT Iron Survivor Challenge, where he claimed the NXT North American Championship for a second time. His first reign set the record for the longest in NXT history.
