Greensprings School emerged as the overall winner at the maiden edition of York University’s inter-school basketball tournament, held on March 29, 2025, at the university’s cutting-edge sports complex.
Atlantic Hall secured second place, while Wellspring College came third in a competition that celebrated athletic talent, unity, and true sportsmanship among participating schools.
The event featured exciting matchups and standout individual performances, reaffirming York University’s commitment to promoting excellence in sports and strengthening its relationship with Nigerian institutions through meaningful athletic engagements.
Designed to foster global participation, the tournament brought together students from Nigeria and other countries to compete in a vibrant display of basketball skill, teamwork, and determination.
Top individual honours went to Chinwuba Ezuobi of Greensprings School and Oluwapamilerin from Corona Schools, Lagos, who were named Most Valuable Players in the boys’ and girls’ categories.
Onosedeba Osigbe from Corona Girls Agbara (Team B) was recognised as the highest scorer in the girls’ 3×3 division, while Josiah from Atlantic Hall stood out for his excellent rebounding.
Beyond wins and trophies, the tournament reflected York University’s broader mission of inclusion and community engagement. Through its partnership with the Toronto Raptors, the institution offers student-athletes access to professional-level training, mentorship, and exposure—enhancing both academic and athletic development.
Though some schools couldn’t attend due to scheduling conflicts, York University acknowledged their interest and expressed its intention to expand the event in future editions, with continued emphasis on Nigerian participation.
As the final whistle blew, the tournament proved to be more than a game—it was a celebration of youth potential, cross-cultural connection, and the university’s vision to inspire the next generation of leaders through sports.
