Nigerian man killed in India, suspect in custody

Indian authorities have arrested Yasin Khan, a worker at a poultry shop in Bellahalli, Bagalur, for allegedly killing a Nigerian national, Adiyako Masaliyo.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday when Masaliyo, 40, visited the shop with an associate and was accused of behaving suspiciously.

Authorities stated that some locals suspected Masaliyo of being involved in drug-related activities, leading to an interrogation by Khan and others at the scene. The situation quickly escalated into an argument and turned violent.

During the altercation, Khan allegedly attacked Masaliyo, prompting the Nigerian to grab a knife in self-defense. Witnesses claim he threatened to stab Khan, who then retaliated by striking Masaliyo on the head with a reaper, inflicting severe injuries.

Reports indicate that Masaliyo attempted to flee but tripped on a stone and died instantly.

While some locals accused the victim of drug trafficking, police investigations have so far found no evidence linking him to any criminal activities. No drugs or illegal substances were recovered from him at the time of the incident.

A murder case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
