Nigerian man bids farewell to Canada after 12years, citing economic struggles

After over a decade of living in Canada, Nigerian-born career coach Kelly Boyi has decided to leave the country, pointing to rising economic challenges and changing conditions that no longer align with his goals.

Boyi shared his decision in a heartfelt social media post, reflecting on his journey since arriving in 2013 as a young man full of ambition and hope.

“I came to Canada seeking growth, opportunity, and a place to belong — and I found much of that,” he wrote, recalling milestones such as landing his first job, buying a car, entering a meaningful relationship, and eventually purchasing property.

By 2023, he had proudly become a Canadian citizen. But just two years later, Boyi has chosen to move on.

“2025 marks the beginning of a new chapter. It’s time to move forward,” he announced.

Despite deep personal ties to Canada, including his family, friendships, and financial commitments, Boyi said the current economic climate made the decision necessary.

He cited growing housing issues, job market difficulties, and general instability as key factors influencing his choice.

“The Canada I arrived in back in 2013 no longer feels the same,” he observed.

Although he hasn’t revealed where he’s heading next, Boyi described the move as part of a personal calling — one that requires courage and a willingness to embrace change.

He ended his message on a note of appreciation and optimism: “I leave with gratitude, not resentment. This isn’t goodbye forever, just a break.”

“Thank you, Canada — for the memories, the growth, and the lessons,” he concluded.
