Nigerian-born journalist Richard Edoki, popularly known as Richybongo, has been named a finalist in the Best Newcomer Category at the 2025 National Hospital Radio Awards in the United Kingdom.
Edoki announced his nomination in a statement on Saturday, highlighting the significance of the prestigious awards organized annually by the Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA), a UK-based broadcasting organization. The awards recognize outstanding contributions to hospital radio broadcasting across the country.
Edoki is the host of African Vibe with Richybongo, a weekly program aired every Sunday evening on the Community Hospital Broadcasting Network (CHBN) in Cornwall, England. The show celebrates the rich cultural diversity of African traditions while fostering inclusivity with local Cornish audiences.
“The program explores African culture through music, food, dress, and language, creating a platform that bridges cultural gaps and builds a sense of community,” Edoki explained.
He noted that the show has successfully brought the vibrant traditions of Africa to Cornish airwaves, promoting shared understanding and a sense of belonging among listeners.
“African Vibe with Richybongo has introduced the richness of African heritage to the Cornish audience while offering Africans in Cornwall a ‘home away from home.’ It’s fulfilling to see how the program has become a bridge between cultures, helping everyone appreciate the diversity that makes our world unique,” he added.
The 2025 National Hospital Radio Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on April 5, 2025.
