A Nigerian, Chukwuemeka Henry Elugwu has been elected a Councillor in UK.
He was elected on the platform of the Labour Party to represent Hardwick West Ward, Banbury Town in Cherwell District Council in the UK.
Elugwu polled 727 votes to emerge winner.
The law provides that a British or a citizen of the commonwealth – to which Nigeria belongs, having been colonised by the British – is eligible to contest for a councillor position in the UK.
Elugwu is from Oboama Nguru, Aboh Mbaise, Imo State Nigeria
Cherwell council is a local government in northern Oxfordshire, England, covering the towns of Bicester and Banbury
Another Nigerian, Frank Chukwuma Ideh won the Bicester South and Ambrosden Ward.
Ideh, who is married with 2 children and has lived in Oxfordshire for several years contested under the Liberal Democrats.
He polled 1250 votes to defeat another Nigerian, Sammy Omotayo of Conservative Party, who polled 647 votes.
