A Nigerian individual has been charged following the stabbing of an army officer near a barracks in Gillingham, Kent. Anthony Esan, 24, was arrested after the attack on Lieutenant Colonel Mark Teeton at approximately 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in Sally Port Gardens, close to Brompton Barracks, home of the 1 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment.
Esan faces charges of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He was seen arriving at Medway Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
According to police, a man was seen fleeing the scene on a motorcycle after the stabbing. Esan was apprehended on Mooring Road in Rochester around 6:30 p.m.
Kent Police reported that the victim, who is in his 40s, remains in a serious but stable condition after being airlifted to the hospital.
