Nigerian-British author Yomi Adegoke has been shortlisted for the 2024 British Book Award.

Yomi Adegoke’s The List was selected for Book of The Year in the categories Audiobook Fiction and Debut Fiction.

The British Book Awards, also known as the “Nibbies,” have recognized excellence in the book industry since 1990. The awards celebrate the individuals who bring stories to life, from authors and illustrators to the behind-the-scenes heroes who make books accessible to readers.

Adegoke’s nomination adds to her impressive literary portfolio. A renowned journalist and author, she has previously co-authored titles like The Offline Diaries (2022), Loud Black Girls (2020), and Slay in Your Lane: The Black Girl Bible (2018). Her achievements extend beyond the literary world, with accolades including being named a Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2021 and receiving the Groucho Maverick and Marie Clare Future Shaper awards.

Senegalese-Irish writer Leon Diop’s book Black & Irish: Legends, Trailblazers & Everyday Heroes is also shortlisted in the Children’s Nonfiction category.

Some of the other nominees are Prince Harry, Alice Oseman, Colleen Hoover, Steven Bartlett, and Rebecca Yarros.

The ceremony revealing the 2024 British Book Award recipients will be held in person on May 13, 2024.
