Omoruyi, a certified public accountant, is a graduate of the University of Benin in Edo State, Nigeria.
His journey from humble beginnings to becoming a distinguished professional in the U.S. has been described as a testament to resilience and dedication.
In his new role, Omoruyi will be responsible for regulating certified public accountants in Texas, ensuring they uphold high professional and ethical standards.
Raised in Nigeria by a mother who was a street food vendor, Omoruyi developed an early interest in financial management.
Encouraged by his mother, he pursued accounting at the University of Benin before moving to the U.S., where he furthered his education with a Master of Science in Business Taxation from the University of Southern California and a Public Leadership Credential from the Harvard Kennedy School.
Currently the managing partner of CKO CPAs & Advisors and an adjunct professor at Lone Star College, Omoruyi has received national recognition for his contributions to the accounting profession.
He has been honored with the CPA Practice Advisor 40 Under 40 Award and the AICPA Outstanding Young CPA Award. Additionally, he was a candidate for Texas’ 7th Congressional District, showcasing his dedication to public service.
Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Omoruyi said, “I am profoundly honored by this appointment. I dedicate this honor to my mother, whose staunch support has been my guiding force, and to my wife, whose encouragement has been most instrumental.”
He emphasized that his appointment reflects the opportunities available in the U.S. and highlights the resilience of the African diaspora.
