Nigeria has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Swedish telecom leader Ericsson to create a 5G Innovation Lab aimed at enhancing the country’s digital infrastructure.
This announcement was made by Stanley Nkwocha, spokesperson for Vice President Kashim Shettima, during the Vice President’s recent working visit to Sweden.
Ericsson, renowned for its role in advancing telecommunications technology worldwide, is instrumental in the global rollout of 5G networks.
The establishment of the 5G Innovation Lab in Nigeria is anticipated to significantly enhance the nation’s telecommunications capabilities, leading to faster internet speeds, improved connectivity, and the stimulation of innovation across various sectors.
Vice President Shettima’s trip to Sweden, which began on October 16, 2024, was initiated by President Bola Tinubu.
The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Sweden, focusing on information and communication technology (ICT), digitalization, innovation, and sustainable transportation.
Shettima is engaged in high-level discussions with notable Swedish officials, including Crown Princess Victoria and Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
Additionally, the Vice President met with Norrsken, a Stockholm-based venture capital firm that has recently introduced a $205 million tech investment fund, Norrsken22, aimed at supporting African startups.
