The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) announced on Monday the repatriation of 22 illegal immigrants from Benin who had been causing disturbances in various local government areas across the state.
Comptroller Grace Adeoye, head of the Ogun State NIS command, shared this update during a visit to the Ogun House of Assembly in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. She highlighted the importance of collaboration with the state government to bolster efforts in tackling illegal immigration, mentioning that this repatriation is part of their broader strategy to address similar issues.
In response, Speaker Oludaisi Elemide assured that the Assembly would continue its partnership with the Immigration Service to enhance operations within the state. He recognized the crucial role of the Immigration Service in maintaining peace and security, particularly in border areas.
Elemide also commended the recent reforms in the issuance of Nigerian passports, noting improvements in both the process and overall service delivery.
Wahab Haruna, Fola Salami, and Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff also lauded the Command’s achievements and called for more proactive measures to curb illegal activities by foreigners, with the goal of strengthening security in border communities.
