Newcastle United revive interest in Osimhen as Napoli plan summer exit

Newcastle United have reportedly renewed their pursuit of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, with Napoli open to selling him at the end of the season.

Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, is available for €75 million, attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle.

The Super Eagles star has been in excellent form in Turkey, netting 17 goals in 22 appearances, as he aims to surpass his career-best tally of 31 goals from the 2022/23 season.

Newcastle had previously considered signing Osimhen but withdrew due to Napoli’s high £113 million valuation last summer. Now, with a lower price tag, the Magpies are revisiting the possibility of adding him to their squad alongside Alexander Isak.

One potential hurdle remains Osimhen’s wages, which exceeded £200,000 per week at Napoli before reducing to £110,000 at Galatasaray. This could pose a financial challenge for Newcastle’s management.

Despite Galatasaray’s interest in keeping him, the Turkish club is unlikely to afford a permanent transfer. With Napoli ready to let him go, Osimhen is expected to secure a move once his loan spell ends.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has hinted at the club’s desire to sign a proven goal scorer, making Osimhen a prime target. However, they face stiff competition from Chelsea, Arsenal, and other Premier League sides also keen on the Nigerian forward.
