New UK visa policy allows Nigerians to keep passports during application process

Nigerian applicants for UK visas can now retain their passports during most stages of the application process, thanks to a new option introduced by VFS Global titled “Keep My Passport While Applying.”

This newly launched service provides more flexibility and convenience, enabling individuals to hold onto their passports after completing document submission and biometric capturing. Passports will only need to be returned once a decision on the visa is finalized.

In addition to this update, the United Kingdom has opened new Premium Visa Application Centres in Port Harcourt and Enugu to streamline the visa process for Nigerian travelers.

The new facilities, managed by VFS Global, aim to make visa services more accessible for people in Nigeria’s South-South and South-East regions—particularly in anticipation of increased travel during the summer.

According to a statement released by the British High Commission on Monday, the new centres are located at Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt and Omedel Luxury Hotel in Enugu.

These sites complement existing centres in Abuja, Ikeja, and Victoria Island in Lagos, which have been operating since November 2024. Appointments at the new centres can be scheduled via the official portal: https://visa.vfsglobal.com/nga/en/gbr.

The British High Commission stated that these efforts are part of broader plans to improve visa service delivery and meet rising demand from Nigerian travelers.
