Mohbad: Nigerian protesters occupy High Commission in London, call for thorough probe

Nigerian protesters occupied the Nigeria High Commission in London on Monday, demanding justice for the late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad.

The demonstrators, carrying placards and banners, called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

They expressed frustration over delayed and inconclusive autopsy results and urged authorities to look into those who were with Mohbad when he passed away.

Mohbad, a 27-year-old artist formerly signed to Naira Marley’s record label, Marlian Music, died on September 12, triggering widespread controversy and outrage on social media.

In response to his death, the Lagos State Police Command formed a 13-member special investigation team on September 18, 2023.

This initiative led to several arrests, including Naira Marley and Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry. Mohbad’s body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, announced completion of the autopsy in September 2023, with the police awaiting results.

In April, reports indicated completion of the toxicology test, although a US-based laboratory denied conducting the test, contrary to claims by the Lagos State Government.

This revelation emerged during a fact-finding mission aimed at determining the musician’s cause of death.

Earlier, Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso had stated that the test was conducted at NMS Labs in Pennsylvania, USA. Later, a pathologist testified in the Coroner’s Court on May 15 that the autopsy failed to determine Mohbad’s cause of death due to the state of his body’s decomposition.
