The Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant gained significant attention following the controversy surrounding Chidinma Adetshina’s withdrawal from the Miss South Africa pageant. Her decision to accept an invitation to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant brought the event into the spotlight.
Amid the drama, certain delegates have shone in the pageantry industry, notably Edeifo Aikhuele, the Edo State representative and the first-ever Miss Diaspora Nigeria USA 2023 winner. Aikhuele is determined to claim the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 crown to advance her advocacy and charity work, particularly in the areas of children’s education and healthcare.
Competing as Miss Edo, contestant number 10, Aikhuele holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Binghamton University and is a Senior Business Development Manager in Real Estate Banking. As a first-generation American, she deeply values her Nigerian heritage and remains closely connected to her roots. She advocates for greater investment in Nigeria to spur economic growth, social progress, and secure a better future for upcoming generations.
Aikhuele highlighted the shared responsibility of all Nigerians to contribute to their homeland’s advancement, saying, “Nigeria is our ancestral home, and we must foster its growth and development.”
Her commitment to advocacy is fueled by her personal experience with severe malaria as a child, which has driven her mission to support Nigerian children who lack access to essential healthcare and resources. Aikhuele has become a dedicated advocate for children’s rights, striving to ensure they have the opportunity to dream, learn, and thrive. Her efforts include participating in panel discussions and engaging with Nigerian government officials to address these vital issues.
This year, 25 contestants will represent various states across Nigeria. Last year’s winner, Mitchel Ihezue from Imo State, went on to represent Nigeria at the 72nd Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador.
The winner of this year’s competition will represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico this November, while the runner-up will participate in the Miss Supranational pageant.
Arthur Ngwube, Brand Manager of Silverbird Group, noted that the theme for this year’s competition, ‘Digital Divas,’ reflects the increasing importance of digital presence and influence. He encouraged the delegates to leverage technology, social media, and digital platforms in their pursuit of the crown.
