Nigerian-born Moro Ojomo, a defensive lineman for the Philadelphia Giants and a Super Bowl champion, has returned home, carrying a message of national pride and ambition.
Ojomo was warmly received by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), where he spoke about how his Nigerian heritage played a crucial role in his journey to success on the global football stage.
“It’s been an incredible experience,” Ojomo said about representing Nigeria at the highest level of American football.
“My drive and motivation come from my Nigerian upbringing. The values and passion instilled in me have helped me excel, and I’m proud to showcase Nigeria on the world stage.”
Ojomo’s rise from Nigeria to the NFL is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the talent and resilience of Nigerians worldwide. He highlighted the growing opportunities American football offers to Nigerian youths, particularly in education and professional development.
“American football is a huge platform. If you look at the number of Africans, especially Nigerians, in the sport, it’s significant,” he said.
“The key is creating opportunities for young Nigerians to get involved. It’s a pathway to education—high school and college scholarships—and a way to elevate Nigeria’s presence internationally.”
Despite his success in the NFL, Ojomo remains deeply connected to his Nigerian roots. He cherishes the sense of community, strong friendships, and family values that shaped him.
“The work ethic, the focus on education, and the commitment to sports all played a role in my journey,” he noted.
Before choosing football, Ojomo explored soccer and basketball but eventually found his calling in the NFL, where he has made history.
