The Nigerian Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has successfully addressed the passport printing issues at the country’s consulates in New York and Atlanta.
Following his directive to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in January 2025, new passport printers were delivered and installed on February 18, 2025.
This development comes in response to concerns raised by Nigerians in the diaspora about delays in passport processing due to faulty equipment.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Babatunde Alao, Special Adviser on Media to the Minister, emphasized that the installation of the new printers is part of broader efforts to enhance passport services and ensure a smoother application process.
“The Ministry is committed to innovation and improved service delivery,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated.
“This upgrade reflects our dedication to addressing the needs of Nigerians both at home and abroad.”
As part of ongoing reforms, the government is also expanding the Abuja Passport Personalisation Centre and introducing more contactless solutions to improve efficiency.
This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to improving services for Nigerians worldwide.
With these upgrades, applicants in New York and Atlanta can now expect a faster and more efficient passport issuance process.
