French Embassy sponsors Nigerian delegation to MIPCOM

The French Embassy has teamed up with the Nigerian International Film and TV Summit (NIFS) to sponsor a delegation of around 20 Nigerian companies to the International Market of Communications Programmes (MIPCOM) in Cannes, France.

Speaking at a recent press conference in Lagos, Mr. Laurent Favier, the Consul General of France in Lagos, announced the initiative.

He explained, “Following three years of supporting Nigerian Animation Studios at the Animation Film International Market in Annecy, the French Embassy in Nigeria is extending its support to the Nigerian industry at MIPCOM.”

Favier added that the stand, organized in collaboration with NIFS, will host over 15 Nigerian studios showcasing their films, TV series, and shows to international broadcasters and platforms.

“This support for Nigeria’s audiovisual sector is made possible by specific funds. This year, the ‘Creation Africa’ programme, funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, enables us to foster entrepreneurship in the cultural and creative industries,” Favier revealed. The fund has been entrusted to the embassy for an 18-month period.

MIPCOM Cannes is a global hub for entertainment content across all platforms, attracting over 11,000 delegates, 3,500 buyers, and representatives from more than 100 countries.

Over the course of four days, participants will engage in networking, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative opportunities aimed at propelling Nigerian content to international recognition.

By joining the Nigerian delegation, industry professionals and rights holders reaffirmed their dedication to promoting African stories that resonate globally.
