Four players of Nigerian descent included in England U16 squad for Montaigu Tournament

The English Football Association has named four players of Nigerian heritage in their squad for the upcoming Montaigu Tournament, an international U16 football competition.

Daniel Adediran (Aston Villa), Malik Olayiwola (Everton), Riley Ebho (West Ham United), and Sam Alabi (Newcastle United) are all part of the squad set to represent England in the prestigious event.

The announcement was made via a social media post from England Youth.

The Young Lions will kick off their campaign at the Montaigu Tournament on April 15 against Japan, followed by matches with Mexico on April 17 and Portugal on April 19.

The Montaigu Tournament has seen many world-class footballers play in their youth, including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, and Morgan Rogers.

Other notable alumni include World Cup champions Marcel Desailly, Didier Deschamps, and Thierry Henry, as well as 2022 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema.

Sam Alabi, who has made 15 appearances in the U18 Premier League this season, has also made his debut in the FA Youth Cup, showcasing his potential and the strong trust Newcastle’s youth coaches place in him.

Malik Olayiwola and Riley Ebho, who have both represented Everton and West Ham in the U18 Premier League, will also look to make an impact at the tournament.
