Libyan authorities have taken five Nigerian nationals into custody for allegedly stealing electrical equipment from a farm in the city of Sabha.
The arrest was announced on Monday, May 26, 2025, by Migrant Rescue Watch via a post on social media.
According to the organization, the suspects were apprehended a day earlier, on Sunday, May 25, by officers from the Al-Qahira Police Department.
The brief statement confirmed that the five individuals have been handed over to public prosecutors, where they are expected to face further legal proceedings.
“#Libya 25.05.25 – Al-Qahira Police Dept. (Sabha) arrested 5 #migrants of Nigerian nationality for theft of electrical equipment from a farm. All referred to public prosecution for legal action,” the post read, using the hashtags #migrantcrisis, #DontTakeToTheSea, and #Frontex.
Libya continues to serve as a major transit hub for migrants, many of whom face difficult living conditions while en route to Europe.
