Finidi George unveiled as new Super Eagles Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officially presented former Ajax star Finidi George as the new head coach of the Super Eagles on Monday.

While Finidi’s appointment was announced two weeks ago, the NFF did not disclose details of his contract at the unveiling ceremony. He did, however, sign the contract during the event, which was presided over by NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and Sports Minister John Enoh.

Former teammate Daniel Amokachi and German-based Benjamin James will serve as assistants to George. Analyst Mehmet Ozturk and fitness trainer Chima Onyeike, who boasts experience in Russia, Germany, and Greece, will also contribute to the team’s success. Goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa returns to his role.

Having represented the Nigerian national team in four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and two FIFA World Cups as a player, Finidi was presented with a two-year contract which runs until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The NFF stated that there would be no salaries for assistants except for match allowances and bonuses, while the new Nigeria coach will earn a huge N15 million monthly, making him the highest-paid indigenous coach ever.

The former Real Betis star’s immediate task will be on preparing the team for the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic, scheduled for June.
