The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the repatriation of 190 Nigerians from the United Arab Emirates through a press release.
The returnees arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 5:45 am and were received by a combined team of government officials led by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Upon arrival, the returnees were profiled and documented by relevant agencies and advised to conduct themselves with decorum and responsibility upon their return to Nigeria.
The federal government took this opportunity to urge all Nigerians, wherever they may be, to act as exemplary ambassadors of their country, upholding values of patriotism, the rule of law, decency, and integrity.
This follows an agreement between the Nigerian and UAE governments to resume visa issuance for Nigerians wishing to travel to the Middle Eastern country, a development that sparked excitement among Nigerians on Monday.
“I can tell you that the agreement has been reached and effective from today, Nigerian passport holders intending to travel to the UAE are able to do so,” the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, told State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, on Monday.
Idris explained, “You are aware that Nigeria has been discussing with the United Arab Emirates on the issue of visas for Nigerian passport holders going to the United Arab Emirates.
“Today, an agreement has been reached on that, and effective from today 15th July, Nigerian passport holders are able to obtain visas to go to the United Arab Emirates.
“Details of that will be provided to you later today when we put out a statement.”
