Nigerians residing in the United States can now experience faster and more efficient passport processing following the installation of new passport printers at the country’s consulates in Atlanta and New York.
The upgrade follows a directive issued in January 2025 by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, aimed at resolving delays caused by outdated equipment.
A statement from Babatunde Alao, Special Adviser on Media to the Minister, confirmed that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) successfully delivered and installed the machines on February 18, 2025.
Addressing concerns raised by Nigerians in the diaspora, the Minister emphasized that the move is expected to enhance service efficiency and significantly reduce application backlogs.
“The Ministry is committed to innovation and improved service delivery. The installation of these new printers demonstrates our dedication to addressing the needs of Nigerians at home and abroad,” Tunji-Ojo stated.
This initiative is part of broader reforms within the Ministry of Interior, including the establishment of the Abuja Passport Personalisation Centre and the expansion of contactless passport processing solutions in various regions.
Tunji-Ojo also noted that the development aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to improving government services for Nigerians both locally and internationally.
