Nigerians living abroad will soon be able to obtain their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) by the end of this year.
The announcement was made by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during a meeting with the Nigerian community in Washington, DC, held in conjunction with the ongoing Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group.
He explained that the initiative, spearheaded by the Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), aims to enhance diaspora remittances and enable Nigerians overseas to engage more actively in their home country’s economy.
“It’s completely unacceptable for you to face difficulties in managing your accounts or conducting business in your home country while abroad,” Cardoso stated.
Additionally, the CBN governor met with international investors to discuss the current monetary policy reforms and encouraged them to seize the opportunities presented by Nigeria’s appealing economic landscape.
