Diaspora Nigerians crucial to nation’s growth – NiDCOM Boss

Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has underscored the vital contributions of Nigerians living abroad to the country’s progress.

Speaking through Mr. Gabriel Odu of NiDCOM’s Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit, at a special Para Soccer event held at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja, she described the diaspora community as key players in building the Nigeria of collective dreams.

Dabiri-Erewa called on Nigerians in the diaspora to continue investing in and supporting community-based initiatives that promote inclusivity and foster development at the grassroots level.

She noted that their involvement in such efforts can drive significant change and help shape a more prosperous nation.

Highlighting the importance of solidarity and inclusion, she praised the organizers of the event for their consistent efforts in uplifting vulnerable communities, especially those living with disabilities.

She described the para soccer tournament as a true reflection of courage, strength, and unity, emphasizing that sports remains a powerful tool for social integration.

Founder of the organizing foundation, Dr. Krystal Chanchangi—a Nigerian-American from Taraba State—expressed gratitude to all supporters and encouraged fellow Nigerians abroad not to rely solely on government actions to inspire change.

She urged them to take initiative and contribute meaningfully to national development, stating that transformation begins with people, not policies.

The vibrant atmosphere at the event, which featured energetic performances, dancing, and the presentation of awards to outstanding athletes with disabilities, captured the spirit of inclusion and resilience.

It also reinforced the Foundation’s ongoing mission to create a society where everyone, regardless of physical ability, is given the opportunity to thrive.
