Diaspora investment crucial to Nigeria’s economic prosperity, affirms Dabiri-Erewa

In a concerted effort to bolster Nigeria’s economic outlook, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has underscored the pivotal role of Diaspora investment during a high-level meeting with Optiva Capital, anĀ  investment group.

The meeting, held in Abuja, marked a significant stride towards leveraging the potential of Nigeria’s Diaspora community for sustainable economic growth and fostering stronger bonds between Diaspora members and their homeland.

Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the critical need for structured Diaspora investment as a catalyst for Nigeria’s economic resurgence. She highlighted the importance of collaboration between Optiva Capital Partners and NIDCOM, portraying it as a crucial step towards harnessing the vast potential residing within the Nigerian Diaspora.

During the engagement, Dabiri-Erewa expressed NIDCOM’s readiness to collaborate with Optiva Capital Partners in advancing Diaspora investment initiatives and tapping into the expertise and resources of Nigerians residing abroad. She lauded the alignment of the meeting with NIDCOM’s core objectives, emphasizing the significance of nurturing a symbiotic relationship with the Diaspora community, built on a foundation of trust and mutual benefit.

Dabiri-Erewa shed light on existing platforms such as the Nigerians in Diaspora Investment Summit, which serves as a conduit for Diasporans to invest in various sectors of Nigeria’s economy. She revealed plans for the establishment of a structured Nigerian diaspora fund, envisaged to be driven by the private sector with appropriate government oversight, to further enhance investment opportunities and bolster economic development.

“NIDCOM serves as the bridge connecting Nigeria and its Diasporans, facilitating mutual growth and development,” remarked Dabiri-Erewa, underlining the commission’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for Diaspora engagement and investment.

Jane Kimemia, CEO of Optiva Capital Partners, commended NIDCOM’s proactive approach and expressed optimism about strategic collaboration to expand Diaspora investment opportunities.
