The Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID) has congratulated Dr. Nnaemeka Umerah, a Nigerian-born American Professor of Medicine, for receiving the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from U.S. President Joe Biden.
In a congratulatory letter, President Biden lauded Professor Umerah for his dedication and extensive service to the community, stating, “I commend you for your selfless contributions to the public good and proudly present you with the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing your remarkable 5,400 hours of service to this great nation. Your optimism and resilience have strengthened the American story, helping to deliver solutions to the challenges we face today.”
AEISCID, in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Global President, Paschal Oluchukwu, described the award as well-deserved, citing Umerah’s decades of volunteer work and humanitarian efforts both in the United States and globally. Oluchukwu noted that Professor Umerah has remained a passionate advocate for Nigeria, consistently investing his skills and resources back home.
The statement highlighted Umerah’s philanthropic projects, including the establishment of a major orphanage in Southern Nigeria, drilling boreholes in rural Northern Nigeria, and renovating schools in underserved communities. These efforts, according to Oluchukwu, have distinguished Umerah as a dedicated humanist and an exceptional philanthropist.
As a Professor of Medicine, Umerah has spent much of his career advocating for the less privileged across the globe. Originally from Anambra State, Nigeria, he currently serves as the President and Executive Director of the Public Policy Research and Advocacy Council (PPRAC), a U.S.-based political think-tank organization.
