Dangote Refinery approaches two countries for crude oil import

The Dangote Refinery is actively seeking to import crude oil from Libya and Angola due to ongoing supply challenges in Nigeria.

Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Dangote Industry Limited, disclosed this in an interview with Reuters on Sunday.

Edwin mentioned that besides Libya and Angola, the 650,000 barrels per day refinery is also exploring opportunities to procure crude oil from other African countries to enhance its production capacity.

“We are talking to Libya about importing crude. We will talk to Angola as well, and some other countries in Africa,” Edwin told Reuters.

This development follows previous efforts by the company to source crude oil from the United States and Brazil.

Recently, the Dangote Refinery has been in the spotlight in Nigerian media after Farouk Ahmed, CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, criticized the quality of its products as substandard. This statement has generated significant public reaction.

In response, Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, refuted Ahmed’s claims and called for an independent test to verify the refinery’s product quality.
