Next weekend, Nigeria’s representative at this year’s Miss Universe competition, Chidinma Adetshina, will fulfill her lifelong dream of participating in the prestigious global event in faraway Mexico.
In a heartfelt social media video, Adetshina shared the emotional and mental struggles she has faced on her journey. Despite the setbacks, her determination to wear the coveted golden crown has driven her forward.
“My mind says I’m tired, I can’t do it anymore, but my heart says don’t give up,” she expressed, revealing the tears, pain, and trauma she endured along the way.
The road to the Miss Universe stage has not been an easy one for Adetshina. Just a few months ago, she almost faced disgrace in South Africa when her eligibility was questioned due to her Nigerian and Mozambican heritage. Her troubles began after she became a finalist in the Miss South Africa pageant, only to face backlash over her background.
Adetshina opened up about her challenging journey to the Miss Universe contest, acknowledging the emotional toll it took. “There were days I felt like giving up, days I felt unworthy and undeserving,” she said. “But I refuse to let anyone or anything dim my vision.”
Born to a Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, Adetshina’s journey to the Miss Universe competition has made headlines. She later joined the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant and emerged as the winner, representing Taraba State. She is set to compete on November 16 at the Miss Universe event.
Reflecting on her childhood dream, Adetshina shared, “Since 2017, I’ve dreamed of walking the Miss Universe stage. Seven years later, I, Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, will be walking that stage. Win or lose, I am so proud of myself and filled with joy and fulfillment for accomplishing what once seemed impossible. This achievement is not just mine, but for Nigeria, for Africa.”
Adetshina has been keeping her followers updated on her journey to Mexico, sharing stunning photos and daily insights leading up to the grand event.
