Chidimma Adetshina, a 23-year-old former Miss South Africa contestant, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024.
Representing Taraba State, Adetshina’s victory was announced during the grand finale held at Eko Hotels & Suites, Lagos, on Saturday, by Guy Murray-Bruce, President of the Silverbird Group, which organizes the competition.
Adetshina emerged as the top contestant among 25 participants, securing a grand prize of N10 million.
Her journey to the crown was not without challenges. She previously withdrew from the Miss South Africa 2024 competition amid xenophobic backlash due to her Nigerian heritage.
Additionally, she faced scrutiny over her background, including allegations against her mother regarding identity theft.
Undeterred, Adetshina returned to Nigeria to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, seizing a second chance to fulfill her pageantry aspirations.
The competition’s top three were rounded out with Miss Ondo being named Miss Lush, and Miss Anambra securing the title of first runner-up Miss Supranational, with Adetshina ultimately taking the crown.
As Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, Adetshina will go on to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant on November 16, set to take place in Mexico.
