Canada, Europe, others seek deeper cooperation with Nigeria

Canada, several European nations, and some Caribbean countries have called for stronger trade collaboration with Nigeria to promote mobility and migration.

This appeal was made during the “2024 Investment Migration West Africa” roadshow, held on Friday in Abuja and organized by Henley & Partners, a global firm specializing in investment-based migration.

Ryan Guy, Regional Director and Programme Manager of Canadian Startup Visa Services, praised Nigerians for their significant contributions to business growth in Canada.

“We are committed to bringing high net-worth entrepreneurs and their families to Canada, where they can establish businesses and engage in bilateral trade with Nigeria,” Guy stated. “Nigeria ranks as the third-largest country in terms of individuals entering Canada, and many return home after benefiting from capital and educational opportunities.”

Stuart Wakeling, Managing Partner at Henley & Partners in the UK, urged Nigerian investors to seize international investment opportunities to foster growth. He highlighted the firm’s services in offering alternative citizenship and residence in top global jurisdictions, describing Nigeria as a culturally rich nation.

“We are global leaders in investment migration, offering Plan-B residence, increased global mobility, and business opportunities in a rapidly changing world,” Wakeling noted.

Mehdi Kadri, Executive Vice President at Mecan, emphasized the importance of deepening ties with Nigeria, given the dynamic nature of investment migration. He pointed out the rising costs of migration in the Caribbean and recent policy changes in countries like Portugal, Ireland, and Malta, urging investors to act quickly as demand for alternative citizenship rises.

Fatma Cayir, Founder of Bridge & Partners, offered assistance to Nigerian investors looking to relocate their families and businesses to the UK. She stressed the importance of understanding objectives and requirements before taking the plunge.

Additionally, Siobhan Lloyed, Legal Consultant at Range Developments, highlighted the roadshow’s aim of providing Nigerian investors with essential information on securing second citizenship or Caribbean passports.
