A tragic incident unfolded in a central Mexican state plagued by cartel-related violence, where six members of a single family, including a baby and a toddler, were brutally murdered, as confirmed by a local official on Monday.A
According to authorities, armed assailants stormed into a residence in the city of Leon, Guanajuato, on Sunday night, indiscriminately firing at the family members.
“Regrettably, two children and four women lost their lives,” stated state governor Diego Sinhue Rodriguez during a press briefing. The victims included an eight-month-old infant and a two-year-old boy.
However, two men managed to survive by anticipating the attack and seeking refuge on the roof, avoiding the assailants’ onslaught.
Guanajuato remains ensnared in violence, primarily due to ongoing turf battles among rival cartels engaged in drug trafficking, fuel theft, and other criminal activities. The state, with a population just over 6 million, witnessed a staggering number of police fatalities in 2023—approximately 60—surpassing the total for the entire United States.
