Afrobeats stars fly Nigeria’s flag at 2024 Grammy Awards

Eight Nigerian Afrobeats superstars are gearing up to assert their dominance at the 2024 edition of the Grammy Awards set to hold in Los Angeles on February 4, 2024.

Burna Boy leads the pack with four mentions, namely: Best African Music Performance category, Best Global Music Performance category, Best Global Album category, and the Best Melodic Rap Performance category.

Burna Boy received nominations for “Sittin’ on Top Of The World” for Best Melodic Rap Performance, “I Told Them…” for Best Global Music Album, “Alone” for Best Global Music Performance, and “City Boys” for Best African Music Performance.

He becomes the first Nigerian artist to earn four nominations in one year and the first African lead artist to be nominated in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category.

He also becomes the first African artist to earn five consecutive Grammy nominations, which stretch from 2019 to 2023.

Davido follows Burna Boy with three earned nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards. Davido has been nominated for the Best African Performance category for his hit single ‘Unavailable’ featuring Musa Keys. He was nominated for the Best Global Music Performance category for his single ‘Feel’, while his album Timeless earned him a third nomination in the Best Global Album category.

Davido, who recently fathered a twin, expressed his excitement in a tweet: “3 nominations at the Grammys! Delay is not denial!”

Olamide and Asake received their first-ever Grammy nominations for their collaboration “Amapiano” in the category of Best African Music Performance.

Ayra Starr was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for the worldwide hit “Rush,” while Fireboy DML earned a nomination in the Album of the Year category for his contributions to Jon Batiste’s “World Music Radio.”

Tems’ nomination came from her contribution to Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up.”

CKay was nominated for his work on Janelle Monáe’s “The Age of Pleasure,” which was nominated for Album of the Year.
