Ademola Lookman makes history with hattrick, as Atalanta clinch UEFA Cup

Nigerian striker, Ademola Lookman, etched his name into European footballing history tonight, becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in a single-leg UEFA Europa League final. His phenomenal performance propelled Atalanta to a resounding 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen at a packed Wembley Stadium.

Lookman, on loan from Leicester City, stole the show with a masterclass in clinical finishing. His first goal, a powerful strike from outside the box in the 25th minute, broke the deadlock and sent shudders through the Leverkusen defense. He doubled the lead just before halftime with a composed finish after a flowing Atalanta attack.

Early in the second half, Lookman completed his hat-trick with a scorching long-range effort that left Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky with no chance. Atalanta dominated possession throughout the match, stifling Leverkusen’s attacking threats and showcasing their attacking prowess through Lookman’s brilliance.

This victory marks Atalanta’s first major European trophy, capping off a remarkable season for the Italian club.

Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini showered praise on Lookman after the match. “Ademola was simply phenomenal tonight,” Gasperini said. “His goals were the difference, but his overall contribution to our attacking play was outstanding. He’s a special talent, and we’re fortunate to have him in our team.”
