Nigerian youths advised to maximize study abroad opportunities, avoid pitfalls

Chief Kayode Ogunsola, the Mogaji Olubadan of Ibadan, has urged Nigerian youths planning to study abroad to make the most of their experiences while avoiding common pitfalls.

Speaking at the recently concluded International Study Abroad Fair 2025, Chief Ogunsola shared insights on how studying abroad significantly shaped his career and personal development.

“As an alumnus, studying abroad was a transformative experience that broadened my perspectives and opened up new career opportunities,” he stated.

“It helped shape my values and professional choices in a positive way.”

He encouraged prospective international students to carefully consider their career paths, focus on their interests, and conduct thorough research before making decisions.

He also advised them to seek guidance and support to ensure they achieve their academic and professional goals.

Furthermore, Chief Ogunsola emphasized the importance of returning to Nigeria after their studies to contribute to national development with the skills and knowledge gained abroad.

Chief Ogunsola’s educational journey spans multiple institutions worldwide. He completed his early education at Corona School, Ikoyi, and Command Secondary School, Ipaja, Lagos.

He holds a BSc (Hons) from the University of Ibadan, an Executive MBA from Cranfield University School of Business, a Postgraduate Certificate in Information Systems Design from the University of Westminster (UK), and an LLB from the University of London (UK). Additionally, he has attended executive leadership programs at Harvard University, George Mason University, and MIT. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Europe.

Previously, he served as Chairman of the UK Chapter of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Europe (NIDOE UK) from 2007 to 2011. He was also appointed General Manager and Deputy Director of Business Development and Investment at the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet), a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Aviation.
