Finland opens work permit applications for Nigerians, other foreigners with N2.2M minimum wage

The Finnish Immigration Service has begun accepting applications for the 2025 Finland Seasonal Work Permit, offering job opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, forestry, and tourism.

This program allows foreign workers to take up temporary employment in Finland for a period of up to nine months within a 12-month cycle.

According to TravelBiz, these permits are specifically designed for foreign nationals, enabling them to work legally while adhering to Finland’s labor laws. Applicants must secure a work permit before traveling to the country.

Types of Seasonal Work Permits

There are two main categories of permits based on the duration of employment:
1. Seasonal Work Visa (Up to 3 Months):
• Applicants from visa-required countries must obtain a visa from a Finnish embassy before traveling.
• Those from visa-exempt nations can apply for a seasonal work certificate from the Finnish Immigration Service instead.
2. Residence Permit for Seasonal Work (3 to 9 Months):
• For jobs lasting between three and nine months, a residence permit is mandatory.
• This permit must be secured before entry into Finland.
• Processing times may take up to 90 days, so early application is recommended.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for a seasonal work permit, applicants must meet the following requirements:
• Job Offer & Employment Contract: A valid contract from a Finnish employer is required.
• Minimum Wage: Seasonal workers must earn at least €1,430 (approximately N2.2 million) per month, unless a collective agreement states otherwise.
• Accommodation: Workers must have housing that meets Finland’s health and safety standards.
• Complete Application Submission: Required documents must be provided to avoid processing delays.

Application Process
1. Find a Job: Secure employment in agriculture, forestry, or tourism.
2. Obtain a Contract: Ensure the employer provides a legally binding agreement.
3. Gather Necessary Documents: This includes a valid passport, employment contract, and proof of accommodation.
4. Choose the Correct Permit: Apply for either a seasonal work visa (up to 3 months) or a residence permit for seasonal work (3-9 months).
5. Pay the Application Fee: Complete the required payment for processing.
6. Monitor Application Status: Track progress via the Finnish Immigration Service’s official website.

This opportunity provides a pathway for foreign workers, including Nigerians, to gain employment in Finland while earning competitive wages.
