The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Amanda Azubuike on her historic promotion to Brigadier General in the United States Army.
At 57 years old, Azubuike has become the first Nigerian woman to attain this remarkable rank, breaking barriers and inspiring Nigerians globally.

Nigerian Heritage and Early Life
Born in London, UK, Azubuike hails from Nigerian parents of Igbo descent and a Zimbabwean mother. Her family relocated to the United States after her parents’ divorce, and she became a naturalized US citizen in 1989.
Academic and Military Journey
Azubuike’s path to military service began in high school when she joined the Air Force Junior ROTC program in Jacksonville, Arkansas. She graduated with a degree in Communications from the University of Central Arkansas in 1993 before joining the Army in 1994 as an aviator. After completing the Army Aviation Officer Basic Course, she graduated from flight school as a UH-1 pilot and served as a platoon leader with the 924th Aviation Support Battalion in Georgia.
Azubuike continued her military career as an Operations Officer and RC-12 pilot with the 3rd Military Intelligence Battalion in South Korea, following advanced military training. She later earned a Master of Professional Studies in Public Relations and Corporate Communications from Georgetown University.
Trailblazing Military Career
Azubuike’s 30-year military career saw her take on strategic and leadership roles in intelligence, public affairs, and senior advisory positions. She has served as Deputy Commanding Officer at the US Army Cadet Command, Chief of Public Affairs for the US Southern Command, and Senior Military Advisor at the Pentagon, among other distinguished posts.
