Sevilla signs Nigerian Striker, Akor Adams in €5m deal

Spanish club Sevilla has secured the services of Nigerian striker Akor Adams on a 4.5-year contract worth over ₦8 billion (€5 million). The 24-year-old, hailing from Benue State, will don the number 15 jersey for the club.

Adams joins Sevilla from Ligue 1 side Montpellier, where he has featured in 15 matches this season, recording three goals and three assists. Last season, he emerged as Montpellier’s top scorer, reaching double digits and solidifying his reputation as a promising forward.

The towering 190cm striker is expected to bolster Sevilla’s attack and could make his debut in their upcoming La Liga fixture against Getafe. Adams’ physical presence offers a classic target-man option for head coach García Pimienta, complementing Sevilla’s attacking setup.

At Sevilla, Adams will reunite with fellow Super Eagles stars Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho, although Iheanacho is rumored to be leaving during the winter transfer window.

While Adams has not yet achieved a prolific scoring record at Montpellier or his former Norwegian club, Lillestrøm, his hold-up play and physicality are expected to create opportunities for teammates like Dodi Lukebakio, Isaac Romero, and new recruit Ronald Vargas.

Sevilla, currently struggling with just 24 goals in 21 La Liga games, have prioritized attacking reinforcements under Sporting Director Víctor Orta. After failing to sign Juninho Vieira from Qarabag, the club turned to Adams, who fits Pimienta’s tactical need for a strong target man to complement Sevilla’s possession-based style.

With high expectations, Sevilla hopes Adams can play a key role in improving their offensive output and climbing the La Liga table.
