Canadian-Nigerian filmmaker Pascal Atuma has officially launched Tabic Sports Agency in Nigeria, marking a significant milestone after an eight-year journey to secure the necessary certifications.
The announcement was made during a press conference held in Lagos.
Atuma highlighted that the agency’s establishment followed a transparent process that adhered to FIFA’s “Procedures for the Approval of Agents.” He explained that obtaining the required intermediary license from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was a lengthy process.
“It’s been a long journey,” Atuma shared. “I first needed to secure a coaching license, which took about two years. The NFF requires that applicants demonstrate a contribution to football in various capacities before granting the license. Once I had that, I applied for the intermediary license. However, FIFA transitioned to a new exam-based licensing system, making the process even longer. In total, it took me eight years to complete everything.”
On balancing his filmmaking career with sports management, Atuma noted that teamwork was the key. “As the CEO, I oversee everything, but we have dedicated teams for each sector. My film crew is separate from our record label team, and the sports team operates independently. Our Director of Sports, for example, has no involvement in film or music. All my experiences have prepared me for this moment.”
The Tabic Sports Agency aims to identify and nurture football talent across Nigeria, turning promising players into professional athletes. “Our mission is to ensure no talent is left behind,” Atuma stated. “We want to produce world-class athletes like Kanu Nwankwo and Samuel Eto’o.”
To achieve this, the agency will have representatives in all 36 states. Coaches from local clubs will recommend their best players, who will then be evaluated in Lagos or Abuja. The agency is also accessible via social media to connect with talents across the country.
Key team members of the agency include Mr. Mba Ndubuisi John, Director of Operations for Africa & Europe, and Mr. Chuck Ajoku, Director of Operations for North America, Australia, and New Zealand.
Atuma expressed excitement for the future of Nigerian football, emphasizing Tabic Sports Agency’s commitment to discovering and developing talent at a global standard.
