Patience Key, the former chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora in the US, has announced her candidacy for the 2024 Edo governorship election. Her vision for transforming Edo State through human capital development includes focusing on education, vocational skills, and small businesses.
Her campaign centers on bridging the socioeconomic gap between rural and urban areas. Key promises to foster partnerships with businesses and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to create an environment where small businesses can thrive, ultimately stimulating job creation and economic stability.
Education and vocational training are key pillars of Key’s platform. Recognizing the need to equip youth with relevant skills for the future, she proposes introducing 38 career technical education (CTE) pathways to diversify the educational landscape. This would ensure students acquire both academic knowledge and practical skills in high-demand sectors like technology, healthcare, and manufacturing.
“Investing in our people is crucial,” Key emphasized, referencing successful CTE programs in Lincoln County Schools, where graduates have transitioned smoothly to further education or careers. Key aims to inspire a generation of Edo youths to embrace vocational training by showcasing these success stories.
