Talented striker Musa scores scores brilliant back-heel goal for Man Utd on EFL Trophy debut

Victor Musa, the Spanish-born Nigerian striker, marked his EFL Trophy debut with a stunning backheel goal on Tuesday night, though his effort couldn’t prevent Manchester United U21s from suffering a 4-1 defeat to League One side Huddersfield Town.

Musa was one of four Nigerian players involved in the match at John Smith’s Stadium. He and Habeeb Ogunneye started for Manchester United, while Freddie Ladapo and David Kasumu came off the bench for Huddersfield Town.

Huddersfield took the lead in the 29th minute through a powerful strike by Ben Wiles from outside the box. However, United responded just before halftime, with Musa scoring a brilliant equalizer in the 42nd minute. The striker delivered a well-executed backheel finish to a cross from Ethan Ennis on the right, after Ogunneye’s challenge on Mickel Miller allowed the ball to fall to him.

Musa’s goal added to his growing reputation, having scored the decisive goal in United’s 3-2 win over Forest Green Rovers in the National League Cup last month.

Unfortunately for the Red Devils, Huddersfield regained the lead with a header from Rhys Healey, followed by late goals from Kasumu and Tom Lees to seal the victory for the Terriers.

Musa, 18, has featured in seven matches for Manchester United U21s during the 2023-2024 season.
