The United States Embassy in Nigeria has acknowledged the difficulties Nigerian visa applicants are facing with its newly implemented system, assuring the public that efforts are underway to resolve these issues.
In a statement dated October 9, 2024, posted on its official website, the embassy stated, “We are aware of the challenges many visa applicants are encountering during the implementation of the new system. While many of these issues have been resolved, we are working swiftly to address the remaining challenges. We regret the frustration and inconvenience caused to our visa applicants during this transition and expect that all applicants will soon experience improved processing.”
The embassy also highlighted that its consular sections in Abuja and Lagos remain dedicated to delivering a high level of customer service. Both offices continue to offer the full range of consular services while addressing the current system-related challenges.
On August 26, 2024, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria launched the transition to the new visa appointment system, with Nigeria being among the first countries to adopt the system.
The aim of the new platform is to streamline the visa appointment process at both the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate in Lagos, making it more accessible and transparent for applicants across Nigeria.
However, the new system has experienced some setbacks, with applicants reporting delays in securing appointments and processing their applications.
