Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), expressed her gratitude to Hon. Nathan Cooper, Speaker of the Alberta Legislature, for acknowledging the positive impact of the Nigerian community in Alberta and across Canada.
Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa commended the Nigerian community for their significant contributions, stating, “The Nigerian community in Alberta has proven to be progressive and hardworking, serving as excellent ambassadors for Nigeria and playing a vital role in the province’s growth.”
During a strategic meeting in Edmonton, Canada, she encouraged Cooper to visit Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of strengthening ties between the two regions. “Nigeria is filled with opportunities and possibilities. I invite you to experience the real Nigeria, a nation rich in culture and economic potential,” she said.
Additionally, Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerians in Alberta to invest in their homeland, reinforcing the need for stronger economic partnerships between Nigeria and its diaspora. “By investing back home, we build bridges that foster growth and prosperity for both Nigeria and its diaspora,” she emphasized.
Cooper highlighted the significance of the partnership, noting that the relationship between Alberta and the Nigerian community is fundamental to the province’s values and future development. He praised the Nigerian community, stating that their contributions to education, social work, and legal services showcase their dedication and strengthen the bond between the two regions.
The meeting included notable attendees such as Kelechi (Kaycee) Madu, Former Deputy Premier of Alberta; Jibola Abitoye, Councillor for the City of Fort; Funke Olokude from the Nigerian Community Association; and Denrele Yusuf, a prominent banking professional in Calgary.
