On Wednesday evening, 180 Nigerians stranded in Libya returned to their homeland, highlighting a concerted effort to provide much-needed humanitarian assistance.
The returnees landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos around 7:30 PM on a charter flight operated by Al-Buraq Airlines.
The group consisted of 67 adult females, 55 adult males, 24 female children, 18 male children, and 16 infants.
According to a report by Punch, this evacuation was made possible through a collaboration between the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Territorial Office.
Upon their arrival, the Nigerian Immigration Service conducted biometric profiling of the returnees to ensure accurate documentation and support. Various government agencies also provided humanitarian assistance to facilitate their reintegration into society.
The IOM remains a key player in assisting Nigerians stranded abroad, and this latest evacuation emphasizes the organization’s dedication to safeguarding the rights and dignity of migrants.
