The body of Isaac Omodewu, the late Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, is scheduled to return to Nigeria from the United States on Thursday, September 12, 2024. This announcement was made by Wale Sadare, the APC’s Publicity Secretary, according to The PUNCH.
Omodewu had traveled to the U.S. in November 2023 for medical treatment but passed away on August 18, 2024, after a prolonged illness. Sadare detailed the arrangements, noting, “The body will depart the U.S. on September 11 and is expected to arrive in Nigeria on September 12. A Christian wake will be held in Ibadan on the same day, with a church service and burial scheduled for his hometown, Otu in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, on Friday, September 13.”
Omodewu, who previously served as a Commissioner under the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, was elected as the Oyo State APC Chairman in the party’s state congress in October 2021. He officially took on the role in February 2022, during a ceremony led by Governor Mai Mala Buni’s Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.
Regarding the future leadership of the Oyo APC, Sadare mentioned that a decision about whether Omodewu’s deputy, Olayide Abas, will assume the position of chairman will be deferred until after the funeral. “We have not made any decisions yet. We will address the matter following the burial, as our focus right now is on honoring our chairman,” Sadare explained.
Olayide Abas, the current deputy chairman, hails from Igboora, the headquarters of the Ibarapa Central Local Government Area in Oyo State.
