Two teenage boys have been detained in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 13-year-old boy at his home in Oldbury, United Kingdom.
West Midlands Police announced that the suspects were arrested on Sunday and are currently being questioned in custody.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday around 16:00 BST on Lovett Avenue, where the young victim was attacked. In the aftermath, the area around the boy’s home has become a site of mourning, with floral tributes, candles, and teddy bears placed outside to honor his memory.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released to the public. A police spokesperson stated, “The boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder,” and assured that the victim’s family has been updated on the situation. “Our thoughts are with them during this devastating time,” the spokesperson added.
The scene at Lovett Avenue is still under police surveillance, with officers stationed at the house where the boy, despite efforts by West Midlands Ambulance Service, was pronounced dead at the scene on Thursday.
In response to the incident, police have set up an online portal for the public to share any relevant information, photos, or videos that might aid the investigation.
The community has expressed profound grief, with emotional tributes left at the scene. Local officers and youth workers are expected to visit the neighborhood in the coming days to offer support and address residents’ concerns.
The incident has shocked the community, which has been increasingly troubled by rising knife crime. In 2023, the West Midlands recorded the highest rate of knife-related offenses in England and Wales.
A long-time resident of the area, who has lived there for over 30 years, expressed her disbelief at the victim’s young age. “It’s just getting worse,” she said, reflecting on the growing violence in the community.
