Starting December 31, 2024, Nigerians living in the UK will no longer be issued Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs) or Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs), as the UK Home Office introduces a new online eVisa system.
According to the Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (CANUK), this shift is part of the UK government’s broader initiative to transition all physical immigration documents to digital formats. The eVisa has been actively promoted throughout 2024 and will fully replace physical visas by the end of the year.
CANUK emphasized that this update means Nigerians with BRCs and BRPs will no longer need these physical documents. Instead, they will receive a digital version, which will remove the need to carry any physical documentation.
The eVisa will function as an online record of one’s immigration status and the terms of their permission to stay in the UK.
In a joint statement on Sunday, CANUK Publicity Secretary Rose Graham and Assistant Publicity Secretary Mohammed Yiosese advised Nigerians impacted by the change to create a UKVI account to access their eVisa.
