Team Nigeria’s Mariam Bolaji has advanced to the quarter-finals of the women’s SL3 badminton event at the ongoing Paralympic Games.
Bolaji secured her spot by defeating Australia’s Celine Vinot with a score of 2-0 (21-8, 21-14). This victory marks Bolaji’s second win in the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, and it is her first appearance in the quarter-finals.
In contrast, Nigerian athlete Chigozie Nnanna faced a setback in the SL4 category, losing 2-0 to world number 3, Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan. Nnanna fought hard in the first set, narrowly losing 24-21, but Setiawan dominated the second set with a score of 21-12.
Both Bolaji and Nnanna have made history as the first African athletes to win matches at these Paralympic Games.
