Popular Nollywood producer who relocated to US bags Doctorate degree in film

Emem Isong-Misode, a pioneering Nollywood producer, screenwriter, and director who relocated to the United States a few years ago, has joined the ranks of Nigerian celebrities with doctoral degrees.

The acclaimed producer, known for films like “The Breaking Point,” “Reloaded,” “Private Sin,” and “She Devi,” recently earned a PhD in Film and Media Arts from the University of the Creative Arts in the United Kingdom.

Her four-year program focused on the role of hybridity in shaping identity within Nigerian Nollywood cinema, drawing from her over 25 years of experience in filmmaking.

On Instagram, Emem celebrated her achievement, writing, “It has been a full circle of this doctoral research at the University of the Creative Arts, for which I am grateful. After four years of rigorous study from 2020 to 2024, and following a comprehensive viva presentation, I am honored to present myself as Dr. Emem Isong-Misode (PhD).”

Additionally, Emem is preparing for the second edition of her film festival, the African Cultural Film Festival (AFFRICUFF), which will take place in Houston, Texas, from October 25 to 26.

The festival’s theme this year is “Cultural Resilience: Strength in Diversity,” building on the success of its inaugural edition last year.
